Committees

Building innovation
The committee provides strategic direction and counsel on regulatory and technical matters related to new or alternative construction practises and materials in search of construction efficiencies and building better. T/he committee also focuses on regulatory reform related to streamlining the development approval and building permit process while leveraging technology. RESCON commissions focused studies which seek to drive innovations in the residential construction sector.

Health & safety
The committee brings together health and safety industry leaders from the residential sector and focuses on all issues related to the Ministry of Labour (MOL), WSIB, IHSA and the Prevention Office. Purpose of the committee is to identify and resolve all safety issues impacting the residential construction sector. Through committee members who participate on IHSA, WSIB and MOL committees, RESCON is engaged on matters related to WSIB policies and premiums, as well as MOL prevention efforts.

Technical committee
The committee provides strategic direction and advice to members, government and industry stakeholders, on matters relating to the Ontario Building Code, regulatory actions and regulations. The committee regularly facilitates and participates in discussions concerning mid-rise and high-rise construction and makes submissions to municipal, provincial and federal governments as well as HCRA and Tarion on matters of interest.

Training & education
The committee provides strategic direction and advice on matters relating to increasing the supply of workers in the skilled trades and construction management in the residential sector, including from underrepresented groups such as women and BIPOC communities. The committee is the advisory body of the Residential Construction Management postgraduate program at George Brown College. RESCON serves as an industry partner to Humber College and Durham College.

Government relations
The committee brings together RESCON members who work in roles related to government relations, stakeholder relations and public affairs to exchange information on policy developments related to RESCON’s core files, and collectively stay ahead of issues at all levels of government and co-ordinate joint efforts where necessary and appropriate.
